Triple Success for Bauder at National Architecture Awards

Following on from Bauder’s recent success at the National Roofing Awards it has had three of its projects recognised at this year's Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) annual awards ceremony. Britton-Pears Archive, Hilden Grange Preparatory School and Wadham College were all acknowledged as projects that set the standard for outstanding architecture at ceremonies which took place on June 16th at various locations throughout the country.
 
The RIBA awards have been running since 1966 and are considered the most rigorously judged awards for architectural excellence. A wide range of criteria are taken into consideration by the distinguished judging panel, but central to their decision making process is rewarding projects that serve as a benchmark for future British architecture. Britten-Pears Archive in Aldeburgh and Hilden Grange School in Tonbridge were both national award winners for having made a significant contribution to architecture, while Wadham College in Oxford was a regional winner for the south, as well as picking up a special award for building conservation.
 
The Britten-Pears Archive is a new build project that was designed by Stanton Williams using sustainable technologies and construction techniques to reduce its environmental impact and enable it to achieve a BREEAM excellent rating. A key component to realising these environmental ambitions was the building’s flat roof that included Bauder’s high quality green roof sedum blanket, which helps recover natural ground lost due to the building’s construction and encourages biodiversity. The green roof was installed on top of Bauder’s hot melt structural waterproofing, which contains post-consumer recycled content, further enhancing the building’s environmental credentials.
 
A Bauder green roof system was also installed on the roof of the new building at Hilden Grange School, with the inclusion of a wildflower blanket. The system build-up incorporated Bauder’s 140mm PIR FA-TE insulation, ensuring the roof achieved the required 0.17 U-Value and satisfied the building’s environmental objectives. Designed by Hawkins\Brown architects the roof blends in harmoniously with the surrounding landscape helping to create a well-insulated, sustainable and contemporary learning environment for the students and staff.

The refurbished Graduate Centre building at Wadham College, designed by architects Lee Fitzgerald, achieved required conservation standards through a pioneering low-energy design. Bauder’s roof system played an important part in this new design through the creation of a roof garden that reduces the buildings carbon footprint and the use of Bauder’s tapered insulation for improved drainage falls and superior thermal performance. This Grade II listed building is an exceptional example of how modern architecture and roof landscaping can not only preserve, but revive a site of great historical significance.
