Bauder Launches Basic Competency Programme

Recent reports have revealed that the UK construction industry is set for annual average growth of 2.5% over the next five years, creating over 230,000 jobs in the process. As a result increased levels of training and apprenticeships will be required to successfully deliver this pipeline of work. In response, Bauder has launched a Basic Competency Programme (BCP), in collaboration with industry trade association SPRA, which will provide trainees with expert single ply installation training that can start them on the road to achieving a Level 2 Single Ply NVQ.

The BCP supports roofing operatives in achieving a competency in at least one roofing discipline and puts them on the path to a roofing qualification. The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) have endorsed the programme and have agreed to issue a 3 year Red Experienced Worker CSCS Card to the experienced operatives who successfully pass a BCP course and end test, allowing the trainee time to study for their NVQ whilst gaining vital on site experience.

Peter Stonebridge, Research and Development Manager at Bauder commented, “As a market leading roofing manufacturer we recognise it is our responsibility to share our expertise and help educate others within the industry. We pride ourselves on providing our approved contractors with all the training and support they need in order to deliver a high quality roof installation; so adding the BCP to our offering is a natural progression. Our training courses are designed to ensure that trainees understand the exact requirements of working with our roofing systems, combining a mixture of theory, demonstrations, videos and practical application work. This benefits not only those who get accredited by us, but also the clients and end users of construction projects.”

“We often hear from our customers and their clients that they are concerned about the industry’s skills shortage and we will therefore continue to invest our time and resources into our training programmes, as these trainees represent an integral part of the future of the built environment.”
