Extensive and Non Accessible Green Roofs

Extensive green roofs are designed to be low maintenance, lightweight systems with no general access. Typically, they have thin layers of substrate (the growing medium) to keep depth and weight to a minimum. Extensive green roofs are delivered for a variety of reasons, the most popular being for biodiversity and meeting a Biodiverse Action Plan (BAP).

  • Bespoke biodiverse green roofs

Broad range of native wildflower plugs, which can be individually selected to produce a bespoke design.

  • WB wildflower blanket

A native species mix of mature wildflower grown on a blanket, designed to give instant greening and colour to a green roof.

  • Seeded extensive roofs

A range of British native seed mixes especially selected to thrive and survive on exposed roofs.

  • XF 301 sedum blanket

Bauder’s lightweight XF 301 Sedum Blanket system giving instant coverage with low maintenance.

  • SB sedum blanket

A British grown sedum blanket produced on a fully bio-degradable coir mat carrier designed to be used over Bauder (FLL Compliant) Extensive Substrate.

  • Individual plug plants

The mixture of species can be chosen and the density adjusted to create a bespoke vegetation finish.

In many instances an extensive green roof can be a planning requisite and the ideal solution is the simplest, lightweight sedum blanket system. Other options are substrate-based systems that are plug planted to the client's requirement or seeded for natural colonisation.

Why choose an extensive green roof from Bauder?

The most drought tolerant planting, therefore the thinnest and lightest system, uses sedum plant species. Bauder's SB Substrate Sedum blanket is the lightest GRO compliant system on the market.

The GRO code

GRO LogoThe GRO code is intended to be recognised as a code of best practice and as such it should be used to guide behaviour relating togreen roof design, specification, installation and maintenance. Bauder endeavour to work in conjunction with the GRO Code of Best Practice for the UK.

What is the Bauder green roof promise?

To give Bauder’s clients peace of mind over the long term establishment and health of their green roof, Bauder offer a Green Roof Promise which will match the duration of the underlying waterproof guarantee (see the Bauder Green Roof Promise Document).
