St Paul's Academy Gains From Value Engineered Roof
St Paul's Academy is a beautiful new building in Abbey Wood, south east London which opened in the last academic year, was constructed by Rydon Construction who appointed Accurate Roofing in October 2009 to install the Bauder Bakor waterproofing system.
Rydon Construction chose the Bauder hot melt system on the 5,500m2 of roof area. The school is a large concrete framed building so they felt the Bauder Bakor hot melt system was the ideal product, offering financial, technical and timescale benefits over other waterproofing solutions.
Andrew Brown, Area Technical Sales Manager for Bauder said, "We were very pleased that Accurate Roofing chose a Bauder system for this prestigious project. The versatility of the Bauder Bakor hot melt system meant that it could be laid at zero falls saving the time and cost of introducing falls and once protected, the roofs could be walked on and used by others trades reducing delays in build time."
The roofs were simple in design with an inverted build-up comprising of paving and ballast allowing for roof mounted plant to be located where required and providing safe and easy access for maintenance staff. This build up also removes the possibility of mechanical damage affecting the waterproofing system in future years.
The new school building was completed and signed off in May 2010, on time and on budget. The roofs have now been complete for over 12 months and have proved trouble free during the Academy's first year
