Bauder and CRASH Team Up Again to Help the Homeless this Christmas

Bauder has once again joined forces with CRASH - the construction industries' charity for homeless people, this time to convert a former coffee shop into nine self-contained bedsits for homelessness charity MoCoCo House, which is based in Middlewich, Cheshire.

With recent figures showing that more than half of teenagers leaving local authority care are placed in unsafe and unsuitable accommodation, initiatives such as this building conversion really are crucial in providing a safe, secure and supportive environment to help homeless young adults grow and develop.

The first stage of this large scale project was to ensure that the building was watertight; therefore CRASH called upon Bauder to undertake a comprehensive roof survey and then awarded the project a cash grant of £10,000 towards the required roof repairs, which were performed by Bauder approved contractor FRS Roofing Services. Supplies for the internal fixtures and furnishings were donated and fitted by other CRASH patron members and were completed just in time to welcome MoCoCo House’s first resident, a young man leaving local authority care because his foster carers are retiring, who will move in within the next two weeks.

Bauder’s Managing Director, Andrew Mackenzie, had this to say about the housing initiative: “We are delighted to have been involved with the MoCoCo House project and to be able to assist with the roofing element. Being a patron partner of CRASH it gives us the opportunity to help homeless people in a practical and tangible way and we will proactively continue to do so in the future.”

In addition to the work performed at MoCoCo House, Bauder also recently supported CRASH at The Energy Management Exhibition (EMEX) by volunteering time on their stand and helping promote CRASH’s services to visitors. The event, which looked at the latest measures to reduce energy usage through technology and training, took place from November 19th-20th at the ExCel Arena in London and was considered a huge success for CRASH in increasing awareness of the remarkable work that they do.

As in previous years, Bauder will also be supporting CRASH’s No Christmas Card Appeal, where companies are asked to send e-mail Christmas cards and then donate the money saved on buying printed cards and stamps to the charity. CRASH receives no government funding and relies on donations from patron members and initiatives like this to cover its core running costs.
