Quadruple Success for Bauder at Scottish Roofing Awards
Bauder was recognised at this year’s NFRC Scottish Roofing Contractor of the Year Awards, winning four of the prizes on offer for our work on Edinburgh Airport, Irvine Leisure Centre and Kingsbarns Equipment Testing Centre. The award winners were announced on November 4th at the Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow, an event hosted by television presenter Hazel Irvine and overseen by incoming NFRC Chairman Peter Treacy.
The Scottish Roofing Contractor of the Year Awards are an industry-wide competition that celebrates outstanding standards of workmanship and safety within the roofing industry. This year the level of competition was particularly high with an unprecedented number of entrants for the twelve award categories available. A wide range of criteria are taken into consideration by the judging panel when determining category winners including: degree of difficulty, aesthetics, problem-solving and environmental qualities.
Bauder’s first win of the day came for its bituminous installation at Edinburgh Airport, which won the ‘Reinforced Bituminous Membrane’ category. As part of this refurbishment project, approved contractor Briggs Amasco (Glasgow) expertly installed 4,000m2 of Bauder’s premium bituminous system, BTRS, which included a complex tapered insulation to effectively create drainage falls on the roof. Following on from this success Irvine Leisure Centre project was then adjudged to be the winner of both the ‘Single Ply’ and ‘Solar’ categories. This new build development features over 3,000m2 of Bauder’s Thermofol
single ply system, which was installed with the highest degree of workmanship by W G Walker & Co before 142 state-of-the-art PV Modules were then fitted, enabling the client to generate at least 37.72 megawatt-hours of solar power each year. The final successful project was Kingsbarns Equipment Testing Centre in the ‘Green Roof’ category; where almost 2,000m2 of Bauder’s root-resistant bituminous waterproofing and green roof sedum blanket system was installed by Briggs Amasco (Aberdeen).
Bauder’s Regional Manager for Scotland, Vinny Fryars, was in attendance and expressed his delight with the company’s success on the night, “We are always delighted when our projects are recognised by the NFRC, which serves as an industry benchmark for excellence and best practice. All of these projects illustrate the exceptional levels of workmanship that our approved contractors deliver and we are extremely proud of the work they continue to produce. This success is a testament to the hard work performed by everybody involved and shows the strength of our offer with bituminous, single ply, green and solar PV roofs all being recognised.”
