Stillpoint in Safe Hands With Bauder
Occupying a riverside spot on the Avon, the new Stillpoint alternative therapy and martial arts centre in Bath is the latest in a long list of projects specifying a Bauder roof.
Bauder, one of Europe’s most respected roofing companies, was delighted to be involved in such an extraordinary building in such as beautiful city.
Planning restrictions in this historic area added to the challenges of the architect, who worked closely with planners to develop the brief. The final design of the clinic and dojo evolved into what feels like a single building fractured into many parts, each corresponding to its particular condition; an interesting collection of buildings incorporating a martial arts centre and dojo, treatments rooms, office and reception areas, changing rooms, and two houses with garages.
The stone used in the lower level of the building links back to the heritage of the area with slate cladding reflecting the former stoneworks that was originally on the site. The architect did not fully conform to the traditional palette of pale colours to complement the neighbouring Bath stone buildings, instead choosing black stained soft wood battens, which give the building a Japanese quality.
Sharp pitches on various elements of the separate roofs were designed to gain the best possible light in the building, particularly for the dojo, which is the largest space in the complex. Bauder’s single ply polymeric sheet roofing covering was selected for the flat roof areas of the building specifically for its light-weight qualities.
Peter Stonebridge, Product Manager for Bauder’s Single Ply Systems said, “Bauder provided a cost-effective single ply roofing system which was ideal for the structure and aesthetics of this building. Our systems offer a viable long-term solution and always come with solid guarantees from a trust brand”.
