Technical support service for blue roof projects
Our technical managers are based nationwide and play a vital role in the success of every blue roof project from initial concept through to installation and sign-off of the Bauder solution. We assist you with the design of the detailing, writing the specification for the blue roof solution, and recommend suitable approved contractors to tender for the project. The service is without charge, and we work with you to ensure your roof specification meets all your needs.
Brief and consultation
You give us your remit either at your office or on site. We will discuss the blue roof project; building type and usage, level of access required, SUDS requirements, zero falls necessity, weight loadings, performance expectations, preferred system application, your budget and how the programme of works can be formulated. Where suitable, we may also consider opportunities for adding a green roof or solar PV array to meet sustainability targets.
Blue roof proposal
The design of every blue roof is individual to the geographical location, construction project and the total allowable discharge defined by the LPA within the planning approval. Therefore we consider the different options available to achieve a blue roof depending on the finish desired and the volume of water to be attenuated.
Specification, calculations and detail design
Designing to protect the building's construction and flat roof waterproofing is vital when delivering a blue roof as many additional forces can affect the structure. We produce roof specific discharge reports for all blue roof specifications we are engaged with, including flow rate, drainage and wind load calculations. We also provide a full design service for green roof and biosolar PV with yield analysis where required.
Consideration must be given to the appropriate form of waterproofing so that it can meet the demands placed on it by the blue roof. Therefore we deliver calculations for the total imposed load of the waterproofing and blue roof system + Volume of water held in a 1:100 year storm.
Contractor selection
Your Bauder technical manager will assist in the selection of appropriate contractors who are approved in the installation of Bauder’s various blue roof systems. Our national network of contractors undergo a rigorous selection process and their installers are trained specifically in the application of our systems, so you are ensured an expert installation.

Installation of the blue roof solution
Once the Bauder approved contractor has been appointed, a pre-contract meeting will make sure that the project delivery is well coordinated. The works are closely monitored by Bauder site technicians with regular inspections and ‘live’ time reports to ensure quality and waterproof integrity of the roof.
Sign off and guarantee
A full final inspection is completed on the works by our site technician team following rigorous approval criteria before the guarantee is issued. Our comprehensive range of guarantee packages fulfil cover requirements for the project (dependant on system/product selection).
