Bauder are first to introduce non-flammable primer
Bauder has launched a next generation spray-applied primer, which dries in minutes, is quick to apply and is non-flammable. The innovative Bauder Activator-Primer (Canister) completes the system range for a
torch-free application of
bitumen membranes and improves safety on site for all operatives working on the roof as the formulation uses a non-flammable solvent and propellant, removing any potential risk of fire caused by a spark or flame.

2Torch campaign has been highlighting the risk of torching onto or near combustible substrates since 2017 and to follow the above guidelines, Bauder launched a self-adhesive detailing cap sheet which is installed using the self-adhesive properties of the membrane along with hot air welding of the laps, which removed the need to torch-on to or near combustible substrates and materials.
The non-flammable Bauder Activator-Primer (Canister) has been specifically developed to provide the necessary preparation of substrates prior to the installation of Self-Adhesive and Torch-Applied membranes. The spray application significantly improves the speed of application by up to 50% compared to roller applied products and it dries in a matter of minutes, meaning installation of the Air & Vapour Control Layer or Underlayer and Self-adhesive capping sheet can take place more quickly and easily. The coat weight of the product is more accurate and consistent than roller applied products, meaning less waste. The product is also easier to apply on vertical surfaces due to the spray application, again with less waste. The tooling (hose and gun) can also be reused time and time again, further minimising cost.
The Bauder Activator-Primer (Canister) comes in a 20.5kg pressurised canister and covers up to 150m². The canister sits within a box which comes with instructions for use and also disposal after use. Primer wastage is also kept to a minimum because unlike traditional application methods (roller applied), all of the primer is forced out of the canister.
After the instructions for emptying and depressurising your canister have been followed, the canister will be empty of any hazardous materials and will also be depressurised. Therefore, it can be considered as scrap metal in accordance with the national or local waste company, under code
EWC 150104 (empty aerosol, no hazardous residues).
