Bitumen Roof Systems
Our long-established and fully integrated roof systems incorporate SBS modified elastomeric bitumen membranes and highly efficient PIR insulation and holds fire classification BROOF(t4) on defined permutations for compliance with building regulations under TS 1187 test method 4 for external fire exposure to roofs and verified by the BBA and stated on our certification. All systems feature torch-free and torch-safe installation techniques for detailing on, or adjacent to combustible materials.
Bituminous membrane roofing systems are durable with a service life in excess of ** years according to section 12 of the relevant BBA certificate. They are suitable for commercial and refurbishment building projects. We have five systems within our bituminous membrane portfolio – Bauder Total Roof System PLUS, Bauder Total Roof System, Bauderflex, Bauder Airtech, Bauder Stripes and one installation method (torch-free detailing). Contact Bauder’s team of specialists, they will be able to tell you which is advisable.
An extensive range of Bauder bitumen roof systems are CCPI verified. This means that the product information we provide delivers accuracy, clarity and reliable data to specifiers when selecting a Bauder solution. Please refer to the relevant system page for more information on the CCPI mark.

Bauder Total Roof System PLUS
Our premium waterproofing system utilising the latest manufacturing technology utilising both APP + SBS modified bitumen. Once the project includes a green roof, our root resistant BauderSMARAGD is specified as the cap sheet (BTGRS PLUS).
Bauder Total Roof System
Our high quality Bauder Total Roof System offers a range of membranes, each with their own attributes, that enable the specified solution to meet the needs of each project. When a green roof is added, the BauderPLANT E cap sheet is used (BTGRS).
Bauderflex
This system offers a commercial alternative for the specifier on a prudent budget. The system uses BauderPLANT E 42 cap sheet for green roofs (Bauderflex Green).
System Airtech
When hot works need to be minimised, our torch-free solution uses self-adhesive membranes and hot air welding across the entire roof.
BauderTHERM SL500
Single-layer torch-applied overlay membrane specifically for refurbishment projects to lengthen the operational lifespan of the existing waterproofing.
Our torch-free detailing is integrated into all the Bauder bituminous waterproofing solutions, including Bauder hot melt, to give versatile safe installation techniques for all roof types, site conditions and the client’s budget.

Installation and maintenance
These systems are installed using a few different methods. Self Adhesive Bitumen installation involving heat-activated 'DUO' technology, hot air welding techniques or adhesive bonding with PIR flat board insulation to provide solutions that are durable, resilient to the natural elements and give excellent fire resistance. Bauder Approved Contractors are the only people fully trained and certified to install our products, providing the necessary experience that our exceptional guarantee demands.
To keep the roof in prime condition, practical maintenance should be carried out. This includes:
- Cutting back tree limbs that overhang the roof to give a 1 metre clearance outside the roof edge. This will significantly reduce blockage of drainage ways due to fallen leaves.
- Removal of any vegetation growth that may have occurred, taking care not to damage the waterproofing.
- Ensuring that any items of plant/equipment that may have been introduced to the roof are sited on suitable isolated slabs, with additional surface protection beneath, and that any fixings that may have been used to secure them, do not penetrate the waterproofing.
Green credentials
Bituminous roofing systems can be used for green roof build ups with a root resistant cap sheet which stops the roots from penetrating the waterproofing system. The membranes are made from bitumen and polyester.
The BRE Green Guide to Specification gives our bituminous systems various generic ratings, depending on the type of deck construction and the support structure used. You can view the various different ratings in our Bitumen Systems Brochure.
Within our bitumen membrane waterproofing systems we have the following EPD certificates for our membranes and PIR insulation:
- Bitumen Membranes S-P-00414
- PU Insulation - Mineral Fleece Facing EPD-IVP-20140206-IBE1-EN
- PU Insulation - Aluminium Facing EPD-IVP-20140207-IBE1-EN
Our products in practice: we are committed to reducing the impact our manufacturing has on the environment as well as how our products can support the environment through the reduction of energy usage, recycling and reusing.
The
BauderPIR insulation has extremely high thermal efficiency and is CFC and HCFC free. It has zero ODP. As part of our PIR insulation manufacturing process, offcuts and waste are readily recycled and used in the production of hand cleansers and decking materials.
Bitumen is the primary raw material used in the production of bituminous waterproofing membranes. It is a byproduct of oil refining and is essentially the waste material of this petrochemical process and therefore has little additional detrimental effect on the environment.
We utilise a shredder to recycle any offcuts, and waste bituminous membranes back into production. When roofs are replaced, the bituminous layers can be incinerated for heating and electricity production
