Bauder honoured to receive two awards at CRASH patrons’ evening
Bauder has been honoured by construction charity, CRASH, with two awards for its contribution to fundraising and materials donation to projects at their annual Above and Beyond Awards held to recognise the support given by patron companies both on an individual and company level.
CRASH hosted the Annual Patrons’ Reception and Above and Beyond Award ceremony on Thursday 26th June 2019 at the Aecom offices in Aldgate, London. The event brought together representatives from across the construction industry to share in the successes of the charity over the year.
James Utting, area technical manager for Bauder, was presented with a Special Recognition Award following his incredible fundraising deed earlier this year. James, a keen runner, took on the Marathon des Sables challenge in April. Dubbed as the toughest foot race on earth, the event consists of 6 marathons over 5 days across the Sahara Desert, whilst carrying food, water, clothing and bedding. James completed the race and raised a staggering £6,630 for CRASH.
On talking about his challenge, James said, “A massive thank you to everyone that supported me and the charity, it was an amazing experience and one that will be remembered. However, I’m in no rush to eat another dehydrated meal!”
Bauder was delighted to also receive the award for Most Donated Materials. CRASH assists homelessness and hospice charities with construction related projects, helping to create places that care for people by aiding with professional expertise, sourcing building products through its committed patrons, and awarding grants.

Bauder’s James Utting takes on toughest foot race on earth in support of CRASH Charity
Bauder area technical manager James Utting is taking on of one the toughest foot races on earth for CRASH Charity. Known as the Marathon Des Sables the race is a multi-day ‘ultra-marathon’ which takes place across the Sahara Desert. Split into five stages the runners have to cover a total of 254km in six days across the Sahara Desert.
James talked about how he plans to take on this epic challenge:
“In April of 2019 I will be running (with maybe a bit of walking) the Marathon Des Sables: 6 Marathons in 5 days across the Sahara Desert. I get to carry all my food, clothes and bedding for the duration.
I do however get to sleep in an open sided tent (that I don’t have to carry) with seven other people – so that’s a bonus! Another upside is that I get rationed my water to about 12 litres per day and there are such things as camel spiders, snakes and scorpions to help if my running pace slows a bit.
So why am I doing it?
To tick a box that’s been there for a few years, and also, along with massive support from the company I work for, Bauder, we are aiming to raise money for our chosen company charity CRASH.
Bauder have been raising money for CRASH for many years. CRASH assists homelessness and hospice charities with construction related projects. Basically, they are helping to create places that care for people by providing assistance with professional expertise. CRASH are constantly sourcing and supplying building materials and awarding cash grants donated by the construction and property industry such as Bauder.
Bauder and CRASH support charities with the practical elements of their building projects. This will help the charities create better places for people to live and work.
Please donate if you can – let’s help CRASH continue to help the numerous charities in building places for those that really need them.
As always, if you have taken the time to read this and you’ve donated, on behalf of Bauder and CRASH, thank you so much.”
