Synopsis

Set in the heart of the Essex countryside, the new build project at Ramsden Hall Academy has delivered two new educational buildings, transforming the existing residential provision. The completed project has provided the pupils with independent living, along with a modern state of the art educational building.

The specification

To meet the specific requirements for the project, main contractor, Morgan Sindall Construction Plc, worked closely with the Essex County Council Framework, officially known as the Essex Construction Framework 2 for main contractors. The brief from the client was to install a flat roofing system that could deliver on the stringent requirements for acoustic performance to provide a calm and undisturbed teaching and living environment for the pupils. By working closely with architects, Pick Everard, and Morgan Sindall Construction Plc, the Bauder project team proposed Bauder Thermofol PVC single ply system incorporating BauderROCK mineral wool insulation. This specific system was specified to ensure that the complete roofing system met the required acoustic performance, with the aim to minimise the amount of external noise that could be transmitted into the buildings to achieve project specification.



The result

The Bauder Thermofol Single Ply PVC system was installed to provide a solution that is durable and resistant to tears, punctures, and the European climate conditions, whilst aesthetically pleasing. This system is lightweight and quick to install making it a cost-effective method. Furthermore, the system build-up incorporated BauderROCK mineral wool insulation to provide a single source solution that met the projects acoustic performance requirements, ensuring that also other key aspects such as technical system performance, site installation requirements and commercial aspects were all met. 1 Bauder THERMOFOL U15 V FR

This 1.5mm polyester reinforced Poly Vinyl Chloride membrane (PVC) membrane benefits from being highly flexible due to the incorporation of internal plasticizers during the manufacturing process. The combination of materials within this membrane provides high tensile strength, with thermal stability and chemical resistance.

2 BauderROCK

A mineral fibre non-combustible insulation with high acoustic performance. The dual density mineral wool composition delivers compressive strength, whilst keeping the overall weight to a minimum and providing high noise absorption which enabled the complete system to meet project requirements.

3 BauderTEC DBR 06

This 0.6mm, self-adhesive, elastomeric air and vapour control layer is light weight and benefits from cleaner, safer, and faster installation than traditional torch applied membranes.
