John Morden Centre

Bauder Total Roof System and Bauder Total Green Roof System with Sedum Blanket and Plug Plants

Synopsis

The John Morden Centre is a multi-award-winning new build project that serves as a daycare facility for the elderly residents of Morden College. The building has a unique structure that combines all the essential amenities, including innovative spaces for social interaction and engagement, with a focus on reducing social isolation among the residents.

Morden College, a Grade I listed almshouse in London, was founded in 1695 by Sir John Morden and built by Edward Strong, Sir Christopher Wren's successor. The new building incorporates historic elements in its colonnade, roofscape, and brickwork.

The client required a roofing system with proven longevity as they retain ownership of the building. The Bauder Total Roof System and Bauder Total Green Roof System were specified for this project as they have a service life in excess of 35 years under normal service conditions as stated within BBA certification.
